Frequently Asked Questions
What does My Very Own Bed provide to families?
My Very Own Bed provides everything a family needs to set up a comfortable place for a child to get a restful night’s sleep. Upon delivery, families will receive a twin-sized platform bed frame (no box spring required), a twin-sized mattress, and a Dream Kit. Our Dream Kits contain a mattress pad, sheets, a blanket/comforter, a pillow, a stuffed animal, and a book.
I had a referral submitted for me through one of your referral partners. What can I expect next?
After your referral is submitted and approved by a case manager, it will be added to our list of deliveries. You can expect a phone call or text from our team the week before your delivery in order to confirm a delivery date. We do our best to complete referrals within a month, but delivery times may vary.
I am not connected to any of the referral partners listed. Is there any other way I can receive a bed from My Very Own Bed?
All families are referred to us by our partner organizations. Our partners submit referrals on behalf of families directly to My Very Own Bed. We do not currently have the capacity to take requests directly from families. Thank you for your understanding.
My child is too big for a twin-sized bed, how can I get them a bigger bed?
My Very Own Bed only provides twin-sized beds. We are unable to process requests for any Twin XL, Full, Queen, or King-sized beds.
I want to donate Dream Kit items! What items does My Very Own Bed accept? And where can I drop them off or ship them?
My Very Own Bed is always accepting brand new twin size sheets, twin size blankets or comforters (including our no sew tie blankets), twin size mattress protectors, pillows, and stuffed animals. All items can be dropped off or shipped to our office in Northeast Minneapolis: 34 13th Ave NE #106, Minneapolis, MN 55413.
Please reach out to us at info@myveryownbed.org to coordinate a time for drop off to make sure a staff member is available. We are unable to accept quilts, used bedding, used stuffed animals, mattresses/frames (both new and used), bunk beds, or used mattresses.
I am part of an organization that I believe would benefit from a partnership with My Very Own Bed. How can we form a partnership?
Currently, we are not taking on any new referral partners but are in the process of establishing a referral partner inquiry process. In the meantime, feel free to send an email to info@myveryownbed.org with the subject "Referral partner inquiry" and include the following information: name of organization, point of contact, geographic area that organization serves, and organization mission. We will keep track of this information and reach out when our process is complete.
We are always interested in partnering with organizations interested in sponsoring our work. Please review our sponsorship opportunities and reach out to Meg with questions at meg@myveryownbed.org.
I am part of a group that is looking for a volunteer opportunity and would love to volunteer at My Very Own Bed. What should we know?
All of My Very Own Bed’s available volunteer opportunities can be accessed online. Opportunities are released about 2-3 months ahead of time, so keep checking back if they are all full.
We want to make volunteer opportunities that the whole family can participate in! We ask that all volunteers be at least 5 years old and that all children be accompanied by an adult.
My Very Own Bed is located in a small office building. For this reason, we cannot host more than 10 – 12 volunteers at a time.
We try our best to make our volunteer opportunities accessible for all. However, some of our opportunities have some physical demands, and may require climbing stairs, carrying up to 40lbs, and/or standing for long periods of time. For specific questions regarding accessibility and mobility requirements, please reach out to info@myveryownbed.org.
