BOARD DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

My Very Own Bed seeks a volunteer with fundraising, networking, event-planning, communications, marketing, or PTA or other community organizational leadership to serve on the Development Committee of our Board of Directors.

The Board Development Committee oversees the organization’s development and fundraising to include organizing, monitoring, and evaluating efforts by the Board to develop philanthropic revenue that ensures the organization’s financial ability to carry out its mission. The Committee meets monthly and communicates regularly with the Board of Directors to fulfill its goals. My Very Own Bed seeks to broaden the diversity of experiences that inform our work, particularly including those with lived experience relevant to our mission.

My Very Own Bed

Founded in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) organization, My Very Own Bed’s mission is to provide new beds and linens to children of families who have recently secured stable housing in the Twin Cities. Our vision is to give every child a place to sleep well, dream, and find comfort in a space of their own. We focus on new beds for kids because of the amazing power of sleep to keep kids healthy, to help them focus in school, and to reach

their full potential.

Racial Equity Statement

My Very Own Bed recognizes that systemic racism contributes to many children not having a comfortable place of their own to sleep on at night. We are committed to antiracism and advancing racial equity within our organization and community by:

  • Treating everyone with dignity and respect

  • Identifying how white supremacy culture influences our internal policies and practices, while seeking to create ones that honor and celebrate everyone’s experiences

  • Intentionally diversifying our organization and partnerships to include the voices of the community and organizations we are honored to work with

  • Listening, learning, and growing from our mistakes

  • Being accountable to ourselves (both staff and board) and the community by regularly reporting on our progress, mistakes, and plans

We seek volunteers committed to our racial equity statement and our core values, including:

  • Relationships first

  • Respect and dignity for all

  • Open to growth and improvement
